Options: is volatility cheap or dear?

Whether a contract is cheap or dear depends on where implied volatility sits relative to recent realised movement. This page lines up 30-day implied volatility, IV rank, the expected move into the next expiry, 25-delta skew and the put/call ratio for 12 underlyings, with term structure and the volatility smile on each one.

VOLATILITY BOARD

Which market carries the priciest options

IV30 is the 30-day at-the-money implied volatility; the expected move uses the expiry about two weeks out; skew is 25-delta put IV minus call IV, so a positive value means puts are pricier. Data as of 2026-11-07 21:42 (UTC+8), CBOE delayed by about 15 minutes.

IV RANKING

Where implied volatility is highest right now

Bar length is relative IV30; the figure on the right is the expected move into the next expiry. Whether that is rich or cheap depends on where IV sits in its own one-year range — open a market to see its IV rank.

HOW TO READ IT

Three numbers are enough

IV30

The implied volatility of the 30-day at-the-money option: what the market will pay for 30 days of movement. It says nothing about direction.

IV rank

IV30 placed inside its one-year range: 0 is the yearly low, 100 the yearly high. High means options are expensive, low means cheap.

Expected move

A one-standard-deviation move implied by at-the-money option prices: how far the market thinks price will travel into expiry. Roughly seven times in ten it stays inside.

FAQ

Where does the data come from?

CBOE delayed quotes, about 15 minutes behind, refreshed every 30 minutes. It covers the S&P 500, Nasdaq 100, SPY, QQQ, IWM and seven popular US stocks.

What is IV30?

The implied volatility of the 30-day at-the-money option — what the market prices for the next 30 days of movement. Higher means more expected movement.

How is IV rank calculated?

Today's IV30 placed inside its one-year range: 0 is the yearly low, 100 is the yearly high. Our database records IV30 once a day and shows a value after 20 trading days; until then it shows collection progress.

What is the expected move?

The one-standard-deviation move implied by at-the-money options — how far the market prices the underlying over the next N days. It is a price, not a promise.

What is skew?

The implied-volatility difference between 25-delta puts and calls at the same expiry. A positive value means puts are pricier and the market is paying for downside protection.
