How to read short-term and swing signals
| Short-term Signals | Swing Signals | |
|---|---|---|
| Chart | 30 minutes | 1 hour and 4 hours |
| Typical holding time | A few hours to a day | About a day to a week |
| When they come | Around the clock; on weekends crypto only | Around the clock; on weekends crypto only |
| Time limit | Closed by 23:00 (UTC+8) the same day, or after about a day; never held over the weekend except crypto | Closed after the holding period shown on the signal |
- Direction
"Bullish" means go long, "Bearish" means go short.
- Entry
If marked "limit", place a limit order at the entry price and cancel it if it does not fill; otherwise enter at the open of the next candle.
- Stop
Close everything if price touches it. The risk on each signal is the distance from entry to stop, and results are counted in R: +1R means a gain equal to the risk taken.
- Take half off, then target
At the "take half off" price close half the position and move the stop on the rest to the entry price, then wait for the target. If price turns back, the remaining half is break-even at worst. A few signals have no take-half level; those are a single order aimed at the target.
- Status
Waiting for the open, limit order pending, open, half closed with the rest at break-even, then target hit, half profit with the rest at entry, stopped out or closed at the time limit. "Look-back" marks results re-run on live quotes before launch.
How to place a signal as two orders
"Take half off" means closing half of the position, not a price halfway to the target. The simplest way is to split one signal into two equal orders:
| Entry | Stop | Take profit | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Order 1 (half size) | Signal entry | Signal stop | Take-half price |
| Order 2 (other half) | Signal entry | Signal stop | Target |
- Place both orders
Both orders share the same entry and stop; only the take-profit differs.
- Order 1 takes profit
Move the stop on order 2 to the entry price. It is now break-even at worst while it runs to the target.
- If the stop is hit first
Both orders close, and the loss is the risk of one signal (-1R).
- Time limit
If neither level is hit by the time limit on the signal, close at the market.
Every signal's detail page has a "How to place it" box with that signal's own prices.
How to read key levels
- Direction arrow
The arrow on the chart runs from the current price to target 2. Up means bullish, down means bearish. When price is already near target 1, the arrow dips first and then heads to target 2, meaning a pullback may come first.
- Pivot (blue line)
The pivot is the line in the sand. While price holds it, the preferred direction stands; once price breaks through, the view is invalid and a new set of levels follows at the next update. Many traders place their stop just beyond the pivot.
- Targets 1 and 2
Where price may head next. Target 1 is closer and more likely to be reached first; target 2 is further away. Many traders take partial profit at target 1 and let the rest run towards target 2.
- Expected move
How much room is left. For forex it shows the pips from the current price to targets 1-2 (0.0001 per pip, 0.01 for yen pairs); for everything else, the percentage to target 2, so you can compare markets.
