US Winter Time from Nov 1: Gold, Forex and US Stock Trading Hours in UTC+8
After the US switches back to standard time on November 1, US economic data moves to 21:30 UTC+8, US stocks open at 22:30 and the daily gold and forex break shifts one hour later. Here are the times Asian traders use most.

The US ends daylight saving time on Sunday, November 1, 2026, turning clocks back one hour. Europe and the UK already switched on October 25. From Monday, November 2, every US-linked time is one hour later in UTC+8 (Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan). Bangkok, Jakarta and Ho Chi Minh City are on UTC+7, so subtract one more hour.
When is US economic data released?
Most major US data comes out at 8:30 a.m. New York time: nonfarm payrolls, CPI, retail sales and weekly jobless claims.
- Winter time (from Nov 2): 21:30 UTC+8 (20:30 UTC+7)
- Summer time (March to October): 20:30 UTC+8
Fed rate decisions are announced at 2:00 p.m. New York time, which is 03:00 UTC+8 in winter (02:00 in summer). Check the economic calendar for what is due each day.
When do US stocks open and close?
Regular hours on the NYSE and Nasdaq are 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. New York time.
- Winter: opens 22:30 UTC+8, closes 05:00 UTC+8 the next morning
- Summer: opens 21:30 UTC+8, closes 04:00 UTC+8
When do gold and forex open and take their daily break?
Forex and spot gold trade almost 24 hours a day, but there is a weekly open and close and a daily break of about one hour. Platforms differ by a few minutes; these are typical times:
- Weekly open: in winter about 06:00 (forex) to 07:00 (gold) UTC+8 on Monday; one hour earlier in summer
- Daily break: gold about 06:00 to 07:00 UTC+8 in winter, 05:00 to 06:00 in summer
- Weekly close: about 06:00 UTC+8 on Saturday in winter, 05:00 in summer
Spreads are usually wider in the first minutes after the daily open, so rushing in right at the open can cost you.
Which part of the day moves the most?
- Asian session (from the 08:00 UTC+8 Tokyo open): usually calmer
- European session (from the 16:00 UTC+8 London open in winter): volatility starts to pick up
- US session (from 21:30 UTC+8 data releases in winter): the hours when Europe and the US overlap are usually the most active for gold and the dollar
Watch the week of October 26 to 30
Europe is already on winter time but the US is not, so the gap is different this week: London opens at 16:00 UTC+8 while US data is still released at 20:30. Everything lines up on winter time from November 2.
Is crypto affected?
No. Bitcoin and Ethereum trade 24 hours a day, weekends included, with no open or close. Crypto volatility often rises around US data releases and the US stock open, though, so those times still matter.
A quick reminder
Phones and computers adjust automatically, but times written in your notes do not. This week, move your alarms and screen time one hour later.
