You're in profit. Where do you exit? Use the first level in the way

You're in profit right now. Where do you get out?

Pick a target. Then see where price actually went.

Gold, one-hour chart. Say you bought this candle at 4,164.90, after a bounce near 4,150.

Your stop is under the low, at 4,150.82. Now you're up about 24 dollars.

Target one: 4,200, the next round number.

Target two: 4,217.25, the last swing high, where this drop started.

Target three: no target. Hold it and let it run.

Here's the rule. Take part of your profit at the first level in the way.

Then move your stop to your entry. The rest of the trade can't lose anymore.

Here, the first level is 4,200. So: sell half there, and move the stop to 4,164.90.

Here's what happened. Gold hit 4,200.56, then turned down.

It never reached 4,217.25. Within a day, it fell to 4,146.79, through the original stop.

Holding for target two or three turned a winning trade into a loss.

With the plan, half was banked at 4,200, and the rest closed at entry.
